Our teachers aim to empower children to explore and learn in a unique environment that encourage a child’s critical thinking and creativity.Our early childhood program serves as the backbone for many at-risk Chicago communities, including West Humboldt Park, Pilsen, Bronzeville, and New City/Back of the Yards.

High rates of poverty and limited educational and economic resources impact these neighborhoods.POSITION SUMMARYThe Lead Teacher is responsible for creating a high-quality learning environment that supports the development and education of the children using the Reggio-inspired approach to learning.

This position is responsible for the management of the classroom, staff and volunteer support, program operations, and development of parent communications.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Write and implement lesson plans that reflect Reggio Inspired curriculum that contributes to the development and appropriate learning experience for children.The position leads classroom teams in creating an atmosphere in which children can grow and develop; develops a classroom environment that is welcoming and emphasizes the importance of the child; includes furnishings and supplies which are attractive, durable and developmentally appropriate.Supervises and interacts with all children’s activities, both inside and outside the classroom.Trains staff and prepares performance evaluations with the assistance of the Site Director.Researches implements and evaluates new curriculum methods and management strategies.Maintain a safe and positive program, which includes exhibiting a warm, engaged attitude toward the children in the classroom and their parents.Takes a pro-social approach to working with individuals as well as groups of children.Implement assessment tools for the purposes of evaluating individual child progress, as well as the effectiveness of different teaching strategies.Create short
– and long-term inquiry projects that are student-centered comprised from analyzing children’s thinking and development while engaging in activities based on the constructivism learning theory.Assess children’s ongoing growth and development in all developmental domains and using data to guide daily plans.Observe, document, and evaluate children on an ongoing basis utilizing Reggio learning techniques.Conduct parent-teacher conferences as needed.Communicate regularly with families regarding children’s development, using goals, communication boards, and monthly documentation that shows developmental progress, daily interactions and documentation panels.Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for children.Create and adapt the classroom and playground environments to enhance intentional learning opportunities that reflect children’s culture and needs.Introduces, implements and evaluates the following activities: Self Image, Language/Literacy Development, Music and Movement, Social Studies, Science, Math, Art, Large/Small Motor Activities, and In-Depth Projects.Prepares classroom materials in advance of the children’s arrival.Monitors classroom budget, and recommends maintenance and repairs as needed in the classrooms.Interprets the program to parents and families; makes home visits as needed (Head Start mandated) and conducts parent meetings.Prepares and completes all reports on children’s growth and development including parent conferences; prepares for and participates regularly in family reviews and IEPs.Conducts weekly team meetings.Attends and participates in parent meetings.Other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
