Process Automation Engineer

Cleveland-Cliffs

This is a Full-time position in Follansbee, WV posted September 7, 2021.

Process Automation Engineer Mountain State Carbon is located in the northern panhandle of West Virginia on the Ohio River.

The facility consists of one six meter battery and three three-meter batteries with a total coke making capacity in excess of one million tons per year.

Primary Responsibilities: * Working directly with a large variety of computers, instrumentation and related automation equipment.* Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system.

Modifications to the automation system to adapt to product changes in raw materials, environmental requirements, or to implement new ideas for continuous improvement to the manufacturing process.* Addressing issues that may impact production or system reliability.* Real-time computer automation and monitoring of the coking processes including maintenance of computer hardware and software, design and installation of new automation systems, and modernization of existing systems.* Working with complex measurement systems such as vision systems for product quality, thermal imaging temperature measurements, RFID and barcode tag reading for product identification, lasers bulk density gauges, etc.* Administering and configuration of Operating Systems and Databases including virtual systems.* Administration of security controls for automation systems.* Working with networking technologies, high speed data transmission, specialty interfaces, and video systems.* Development, implementation and maintenance of computer models for mill processes.* Assignments on new installation or modernization projects with participation in activities such as planning, engineering design, field devices, hardware configuration, software design, development and testing, and new system start-up.* Being well-informed of quality and reliability issues.* Working with vendors on products and performance issues.* Keeping abreast of projects and activities performed by the Research group.* Staying current with technology advancements in industrial automation.* Supporting a 7×24 operation which will require responding to occasional off-hour calls.* Writing periodic status reports and presenting project updates to peers, other departments, and management.* Various other duties as needed to support the business.

Requirements: * Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in an engineering/computer related field, such as, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.* Familiarity with Visual Basic, SQL, SQL Scripting, SQL Report Builder.* Familiarity with FactoryTalk (RSLogix, FTView, FactoryTalk Transaction Manager.)* Familiarity with MS SQL Tables (Views, Procedures, Scripting, Report Builder, etc.)* Familiarity with VMWare VCenter.* Familiarity with WF drives.* Infrastructure maintenance experience, especially in desktop and network support.* Strong troubleshooting skills are necessary.* Demonstrated skills in organization, prioritization, time-management, and decision making.* Good oral & written communication skills.* Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to learn new skills/technologies readily.* Process knowledge in coke, power, and chemical processing plants.

Preferred Requirements: * Five year’s experience and a bachelor’s degree in an engineering/computer related field, such as Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.* Extensive experience with Visual Basic, SOL, SOL Scripting, SOL Report Builder.* Extensive experience with FactoryTalk (RSLogix, FTView, FactoryTalk Transaction Manager.)* Extensive experience with MS SOL Tables (Views, Procedures, Scripting, Report Builder etc.)* Extensive experience with VMWare VCenter Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
