Nature of WorkDepartment of Health and Human Resources (DHHR)/ Office of Health Facilities (OHF)/ William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital, Lewis Co. or Mildred Mitchell Bateman Hospital, Cabell Co. – Under general supervision, perform full-performance inpatient mental health clinical services within the facility. The Mental Health Therapist will be a part of a multidisciplinary treatment team and conduct: clinical assessments, treatment, consultation, referral and education according to patient needs and team direction. Psychosocial evaluations and provide therapeutic interventions including individual, group and family therapeutic services. Assess client’s functioning within work, family and routines of daily living and identify areas needing continued support, resources and treatment in order to assist clients. Maintain required documentation consistent with hospital policies. Attend treatment planning, staff meetings, supervisory conferences, and other activities, which ensure the smooth functioning of clinical operations. This is a tobacco free campus. Examples of Work* Interviews clients to obtain social history and develop a plan of care.* Ensures patient/family involvement in treatment planning.* Provides individual, couple, family and/or group therapy in accordance with the developed treatment plan.* Updates patient treatment plans with change of condition and patient response to care.* Ensures treatment plans include specific measurable goals, objectives/interventions and defining actions unique to each patient’s needs and personal growth.* Documents findings and patient response to treatment in a clear, complete and timely manner.* Writes recommendations concerning recommended treatment and expected progress for clients.* Performs crisis intervention.* Conducts background interviews with new admissions.* Conducts individual or group therapy sessions to facilitate treatment.* Develops, maintains and monitors treatment programs.* Attends treatment team meetings and provides information concerning client progress.* Collects data and reviews literature for reports.* Compiles client information files that include information such as client intake histories, treatment plans, progress documentation, reports written to agencies and courts and discharge summaries.* Assesses patient needs for discharge teaching and/or referral.* Ensures documentation on reviews are based on the treatment plan goals/objectives and reflects progress or failure to progress toward goals.* Communicates on a regular and timely basis with relevant members of the treatment team and family members as appropriate.Knowledge, Skills and Abilties:* Knowledge of the standards, practices and methods in applied experimental, clinical, counseling, educational, measurements, or social psychology.* Knowledge of agency, state and federal laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.* Knowledge of departmental programs and goals.* Knowledge of behavior modification techniques and philosophies.* Must possess strong computer skills.* Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with clients, other employees, employers and the public.* Ability to observe changes in behavior.* Ability to maintain accurate records, progress notes and coordinate with other care providers.* Ability to establish and maintain client rapport.Minimum QualificationsTraining: Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Education.Experience: Minimum one (1) year full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience working with the mentally ill.* DETAILS OF RELATED EXPERIENCE MUST BE SHOWN IN THE WORK EXPERIENCE SECTION OF YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION*The definition of working or volunteering with the mentally ill may include therapeutic, educational or community settings as follows:* Delivery of psychological testing, provision of therapy services (possibly referred to as counseling, therapy, psychotherapy, family therapy, short term therapy, emotional and behavioral regulation, skills training).
