Responsible for the entire documentation lifecycle and for the preparation, writing, proofreading, maintenance, and management of technical documents, such as software and systems engineering, system operations, user documents, training materials, installation guides, standard operations procedures, reports, and project deliverables.

This position relies on effective engagement with many groups who may not be professional writers but experts in their fields.

The best candidate will intelligently gather input from multiple stakeholders and deal effectively with ambiguous or missing information.

Experience at organizing material and completing writing assignments in accordance to existing set of standards regarding order, conciseness, style, and terminology.

Knows when to recommend revisions, format changes, alternative methods of information presentation, or other changes to ensure that the publication contributes to fulfilling the agency’s mission and provides the critical information needed by the intended audience and yet remain in compliance with VA Directives, Handbooks, and Memorandums.

The successful candidate must be able to use a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and document repository tools; in addition, they will have a working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft SharePoint.

The successful candidate must be able to schedule meetings, create agendas, provide high-level summaries, and identify and track the progression of action items.

In addition, the candidate must be able to create procedural documents from meeting recordings/meeting minutes.

The successful candidate must be able to originate or document existing processes that define how tasks are accomplished.

In addition, the candidate must be able to translate complex topics to audience appropriate levels.

The successful candidate must be able to meet deadlines by establishing priorities to effectively meet schedule dates for information gathering, writing, review, and approval.

The successful candidate shall review written work products to ensure that they are of the highest quality prior to the customer review and acceptance.

Bachelor’s with 5
– 8 years (or commensurate experience)
Education / Experience: Prior government/VA experience is highly desired.
